The Postdoctoral Prosthodontics Program actively recruits applicants who will strive for both clinical and academic excellence and who seek a balanced program covering patient care, education, and research. Applicants must be team players, enthusiastic contributors to an atmosphere of clinical and intellectual exchange, and driven by the desire to excel. The Postdoctoral Prosthodontics Program at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Objectives: The goal of the Postdoctoral Prosthodontic Program is to provide progressive clinical, laboratory, and didactic experience in fixed, removable, maxillofacial and implant prosthodontics and to prepare the resident to skillfully practice the clinical art and science of prosthodontics in a specialty practice. An additional goal of our program is to prepare the resident to successfully complete the certification examination of The American Board of Prosthodontics. Interrelations with other medical and dental specialties are emphasized. All prosthodontic residents are under the direct supervision and guidance of the Director and Assistant Director of the residency program. According to the Dental School Graduate School brochure, the Certificate program is 35 months in duration, while the Master of Science program requires 36 months in residence.
Facilities: Located on more than 100 acres in the heart of the South Texas Medical Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has approximately 2,700 students enrolled in the Health Science Center's five schools - the School of Allied Health Sciences, the Dental School, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Medical School, and the School of Nursing. The Health Science Center has nearly 2 million square feet of education, research, treatment and administrative facilities. The University employs some 4,300 persons with a total annual budget if approximately $300 million.
State-of-the-art equipment, a faculty with expertise in all of the
dental disciplines as well as the basic sciences, and an outpatient
clinic which records more than 75,000 patient visits a year contribute
to the superior advanced dental education programs at the UTHSCSA Dental
School.
Almost 500,000 square feet in the Dental School building provides ample space for clinical cubicles, specialty suites, research laboratories, departmental offices, conference areas, and classrooms. In addition, the facilities of the Health Science Center, including its outstanding library, lecture halls, and computer support and learning resources services, are at the disposal of students and faculty. Interaction with ongoing basic science research in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, access to multidisciplinary laboratories, and rotations and clinical experiences in patient care facilities affiliated with the Health Science Center add depth to the curriculum of each program. The faculty of the Dental School, which was founded in 1970, are drawn from across the nation. Many are board certified and recognized internationally as authorities in their field. They are the authors and editors of textbooks, leaders of national and international dental organizations, and researchers who continuously contribute to the literature and the body of knowledge in current dental sciences.
Tuition and Fees: All Prosthodontic Residents will have the professional and financial opportunity to serve as Teaching Assistants. These Teaching Assistantships will enable graduate students to be eligible to pay tuition at the Texas resident rates regardless of the resident's state of legal residence. Tuition for graduate programs is based on the number of semester hour credits per semester and therefore will vary from year-to-year and from semester-to-semester.
